One thing all the Democratic presidential candidates can agree on is there shouldn´t be a gubernatorial recall election in California. But, they´re split on whether the party should back one of the candidates, in case voters opt to boot Governor Davis out of office.
Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman is backing Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante, who happens to be Lieberman´s main California backer. Lieberman says voters should “have a choice beyond Arnold Schwarzenegger and Larry Flynt.”
Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich agrees with Lieberman.
Other candidates say they either don´t know enough about California politics to back anybody, or simply don´t want to back anyone.
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry says simply having a recall election “insults the democracy” of the nation.
