The public will have a chance to watch Scott Peterson´s preliminary hearing. A judge in Modesto has denied a defense request to close next month´s hearing.
Peterson has pleaded innocent to charges of killing his wife Laci and their unborn son. His lawyer had argued that an open hearing would let the media learn the identities of some witnesses. And he said discussing the evidence in open court would keep Peterson from getting a fair trial.
Prosecutors said having an open hearing is the only way to make sure the public gets accurate information.
Media lawyers argued that preliminary hearings in other high-profile cases in California haven´t been closed in nearly two decades.
