Did prosecutors offer Scott Peterson a deal less than a month after his wife disappeared?
The Modesto Bee on-line edition is reporting today the alleged deal was if Peterson led authorities to her body, they would not seek the death penalty against him, according to newly filed defense documents.
The alleged deal, offered through Peterson´s attorney, would have come as police were publicly refusing to name Peterson as a suspect or rule him out in the disappearance of his wife, Laci.
The Bee reports the defense motion to suppress wiretap evidence — filed late Tuesday in Stanislaus County Superior Court — made reference to the plea offer.
Prosecutors maintain Peterson´s phone was tapped legally.
