The California Supreme Court has declined to halt a recall vote of Governor Davis.
Today´s decision by the Republican-dominated court means the recall will go forward for now on October seventh – despite allegations that signatures on recall petitions were gathered improperly. The court did not rule on the merits of the charges.
That means opponents of the recall will be able to present their allegations in a Los Angeles court on August eighth. The outcome of that court hearing could end up back in the state Supreme Court.
People who want to run for the governor´s job have until August ninth to file for candidacy.
