A familiar name has surfaced in GOP circles, where party leaders are looking ahead to California´s October vote to recall the governor. Jack Kemp, a vice presidential candidate in 1996, is now being mentioned as a possible replacement for Governor Davis.
When some of Kemp´s backers called to urge him to enter the race, he reportedly chuckled and said “Oh, my God.”
It´s not clear if Kemp, a former US Housing Secretary, is seriously considering entering California´s race.
Kemp was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles. He also quarterbacked for the San Diego Chargers.
