Governor Davis´ allies made a last-ditch effort Monday to block certification of signatures of supporters of his recall. Taxpayers Against the Governor’s Recall is seeking a temporary restraining order to stop the secretary of state from certifying Davis´ recall until a hearing on the group’s allegations of illegal signature-gathering.
Meanwhile, counting recall petition signatures was finished last week in Tuolumne County. Results have been forwarded to Secretary of State’s office.
Tuolumne County Elections office received 3,645 recall petitions signatures. County personnel counted and did a random sampling of those signatures. An elections office spokeswoman says they actually checked nearly 1,500 signatures. Of those, 85 percent were found to be valid.
