Gov. Davis Lashes Out At GOP
Governor Davis is lashing out at Republican leaders for refusing to support his budget plan. The governor says a longer budget deadlock could mean the temporary loss of more than 200,000 jobs tied to state transportation projects.
Despite the accusation, Davis also said that some progress has been made toward ending the nearly two-week-old standoff in a meeting Wednesday night with legislative leaders.
The governor said a letter was sent yesterday to hundreds of contractors working on highway projects throughout the state, warning them that the California Department of Transportation will not be able to pay its bills past July 20 without a budget agreement.
