Officials have released the name of a Sierra Conservation Center inmate who died earlier this month while training to be a firefighter.
Prison officials say 29-year-old Kevin Thomas was having trouble keeping up during a hike in a forestry training program when he collapsed, had a seizure and died. An autopsy was performed to determine the exact cause of death, but it was inconclusive. Additional tests are being conducted.
The Los Angeles man was serving an eight-year sentence for possession of cocaine for sale. His family lives in Los Angeles.
