The American Automobile Association says the price of gas has jumped across the country, but Californians are paying the most.
In Sonora, the average price of unleaded regular is a $1.87. In San Francisco, the average price of unleaded regular gasoline today is $2.07. In Los Angeles, the average price per gallon reached $1.88.
Nationwide, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline is a $1.67 per gallon. The price hike is linked to jitters over the potential war in Iraq and a drop in Venezuelan oil production.
Analysts say Californians are paying more because the state has some of the strictest environmental standards for gasoline in the country. The regulations limit supply and make it more vulnerable to potential or real shortages.
