Longs Drugs Plans Layoffs
Longs Drug Stores says it plans to fire 170 employees as it struggles with financial problems.
A spokeswoman says most of the laid off workers are at the company´s Contra Costa County headquarters. The remaining layoffs will come primarily from other parts of California, where many of Long´s stores are located. The spokeswoman says all the lost jobs are administrative support positions.
Walnut Creek-based Longs made the cuts after reporting a big drop in fourth-quarter earnings. Longs also has stores in Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, Washington and Oregon.
