SFPD Chief Won´t Step Aside

An attorney for indicted San Francisco Police Chief Earl Sanders says the chief will take a leave but will not step aside during a probe into an alleged cover-up of a street brawl.

Six top aides to Chief Earl Sanders stepped aside this morning. Sanders´ lawyer, John Burris, says his client will go on leave, possibly a “medical disability leave.” Mayor Willie Brown€™s office says Assistant Chief Alex Fagan, Deputy Chiefs Greg Suhr and David Robinson, Lieutenant Ed Cota, Captain Greg Corrales and Sergeant John Syne have temporarily stepped aside.

The officers are among the ten indicted last week in connection with an alleged attack by off duty officers on two men outside a bar. One of the officers is the son of the assistant chief.
