The Oakland City Council will investigate police use of non-lethal force against anti-war protesters blocking the entrance to a shipping company at the city´s port. An angry audience pelted council members with chants of “Shame!” last night before President Ignacio de la Fuente left with a police escort.
Later, de la Fuente and other city leaders promised an inquiry into Monday´s violence.
Police firing wooden dowels and rubber sting balls left several dozen protesters injured. Police say they opened fire when the crowd refused orders to disperse and began throwing rocks and metal bolts at officers.
