Coroner To Hold News Conference On Body Investigation

Contra Costa medical examiners are trying this morning to determine if the decomposed bodies of a woman and baby are the remains of a pregnant woman who vanished in Modesto on Christmas Eve.

The male infant´s body was found Sunday on park property along the Richmond shoreline. The woman´s body was found yesterday nearby.

Local park police summoned Modesto police investigators, who have been searching for months for missing resident Laci Peterson. Peterson was eight months pregnant and was due to give birth to a baby boy in February.

Her husband, Scott Peterson, has told police he went fishing that day at the Berkeley marina and came home to find his wife missing. The Berkeley marina is just a few miles from the area where the body was discovered.

Authorities have denied published reports the body was clad in maternity clothes and that the legs and head had been cut off.
