Winter is keeping an icy grip on the Sierra Nevada.
Mother Lode residents were greeted with wet and snowy driving conditions this morning. Lots of snow was falling from Standard Road east up the hill. Only a few schools had delays this morning.
A snow advisory is in effect today and tonight for the Lake Tahoe region, where forecasters say up to a foot of new snow could accumulate at the higher elevations.
Chains or snow tires were required on all mountain passes, including Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and U.S. 50 over Echo Summit.
Rain, wind and possible snow was on tap for the Reno-Carson City area. The weather service says snow levels could drop tonight to around the 4,500- foot level.
The latest storm continues what turned out to be a wet and wild April that brought about ten feet of snow to parts of the mountains of western Nevada.
Winter was basically dry in the Sierra, where the last major storms came in December.
