Riot At Merced County Jail
Some of Merced County´s most violent inmates are on a 90-day lockdown today, after a riot broke out in a cell block. Authorities at the Merced County Jail say the melee ensued after television privileges were revoked from some of the prisoners for rowdy behavior. Authorities say 21 inmates smashed an air circulation system, demolished surveillance cameras and destroyed television sets throughout the cell block.
The riot caused nearly $30,000 in damages. The sheriff says the inmates involved may face vandalism and destruction charges, in addition to the three-month lockdown.
