Have you seen my keys?
That´s the question the House Energy and Commerce Committee will ask the Energy Department´s inspector general to look into the disappearance of a set of keys at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.
Committee spokesman Ken Johnson said today that the missing keys — and the earlier disappearance of laptop computers from Los Alamos in New Mexico — indicate that managers at the lab aren´t doing their jobs. The keys, which unlock gates and offices at the lab, disappeared last month.
Officials at the nuclear lab say they have changed the locks and the nation´s weapons secrets were not compromised. Guards at the lab discovered the keys were missing during a routine shift-change procedure last month. Lab spokeswoman Susan Houghton said today the keys have not been located. Lab officials have launched three internal investigations to determine whether the keys were stolen or simply misplaced.
