Stanislaus County prosecutors say the autopsies of Laci Peterson and her unborn son have been sealed by a Modesto judge. The Contra Costa County coroner completed the reports sooner than expected but it was not clear whether a cause of death was determined.
Contra Costa sheriff´s spokesman Jimmy Lee would not comment. Lee has said in the past that investigators may never know how the pregnant substitute teacher was killed.
Scott Peterson is behind bars on charges of murdering his wife and unborn son. He could face the death penalty if convicted.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers asked a judge to seal the autopsy reports and he agreed. The autopsies could be unsealed after a hearing in two weeks to determine whether other investigative reports should be made public.
