Sudden Oak Death Pathogen Found
The pathogen that causes sudden oak death has been found in Stanislaus County. The pathogen has not been found previously in the United States, although it has been found before on certain plants in Europe.
The California Oak Mortality Task Force says the discoveries were both on container plants in nurseries including one in Stanislaus County, where the disease has not been found before.
The discovery brings the number of known U.S. hosts to 22. The devastating disease has killed tens of thousands of California oaks since 1995.
