The Metropolitan Transportation Commission says it is moving forward with plans to use the Pacheco Pass south of San Jose as a route for high speed rail service. Environmentalists don´t like the idea, and say they will sue.
The $30 billion rail line will link Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. MTC officials said yesterday they don´t plan to change their minds. But at a hearing, Mikhail Davis of Earth Island Institute says the Altamont Pass is a better choice.
Next year voters will be asked to approve a multi-billion dollar bond measure for the project. If approved, the rail line would be built over the next decade.
