A judge in Modesto has postponed ruling whether to unseal investigation reports in the Laci Peterson murder case. A lawyer for The Modesto Bee says eight search warrants used to gather evidence from Scott Peterson´s boat, truck and the couple´s home should be made public under state law.
Judge Roger Beauchesne says he will meet again with lawyers Friday and rule by next week.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers say the evidence should be kept sealed to protect Peterson´s right to a fair trial. Peterson denied charges of murdering his wife and unborn son.
The hearing comes as the defense asks for prosecutors to be punished for eavesdropping on protected conversations that were wiretapped between the fertilizer salesman and his lawyer.
