A booming population and a stable economy are what make a city successful. That´s according to this year´s Milken Institute Best Performing Cities study. The Santa Monica based organization ranked close to 300 metro areas based on growth in wages, jobs and high tech.
Number one was Fayetteville, Arkansas, home to retail giant Wal-Mart. Las Vegas, one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, followed in second.
Two Florida cities, Fort Myers and West Palm Beach, took the third and fourth spots.
And California cities San Diego and San Luis Obispo made the top ten with fifth and sixth place. Milken Institute officials say the big winners this year are cities that have seen steady growth in such traditional areas as retail.
