State Restructuring Plan Likely To Be Rejected
California´s Legislature is likely to reject a sweeping government restructuring plan to be formally presented today to Governor Schwarzenegger.
That´s the prediction of departing Senate Leader John Burton. But the San Francisco Democrat says lawmakers will work with the governor on narrower reforms over the coming year. Burton says the governor´s California Performance Review Commission is biting off more than it can chew.
The group´s 2,500-page report proposes to eliminate 12,000 state jobs and hundreds of state boards and commissions to save an estimated $32 billion over the next five years.
