Governor Schwarzenegger arrived in Tokyo today to promote business and tourism.
He was greeted at the airport by thousands of screaming fans of his Hollywood action films.
Schwarzenegger is known to his Japanese fans as “Shuwa-chan.”
He told television crews: “Up until now, I came to promote my movies and the Special Olympics, but this time I´m representing the people of California.”
During his five-day visit, the governor will meet with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and with representatives of the auto and electronics industries.
Japan is California´s top investor and second most important trading partner after Mexico.
But many Japanese businesses believe California is too expensive for their operations because of the state´s high taxes and salaries.
A 57-member delegation of farmers, business executives and others is accompanying the governor, including John Kautz, CEO of Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys, and Bill Pauli, the president of the California Farm Bureau.
