Campaign To Allow Foreign-Born Presidential Candidates
Californians will soon see cable T-V ads urging them to back an amendment to let Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and other foreign-born citizens run for president.
The ads start airing tomorrow.
They come from a California-based group that wants to amend the U-S Constitution, which limits the presidency to people born in the U-S.
Schwarzenegger was born in Austria but became a U-S citizen in 1983.
Schwarzenegger has said he´d consider running for president if the Constitution allowed but he hasn´t pushed for a constitutional change.
Four proposed amendments are circulating in Congress, but none has advanced.
Constitutional amendments require congressional approval and ratification by 38 states.
