Schwarzenegger To Reform Corrections Depts
Governor Schwarzenegger says a special master will oversee reforms in the California Youth Authority.
The changes were caused by the settlement of a 2003 taxpayer lawsuit in Alameda County in which the parent of a C-Y-A ward protested conditions at the authority.
Schwarzenegger says he ordered his legal advisers to settle the case after he took office a year ago and determined the correctional system was deeply flawed.
Experts will help the authority plan reforms in six areas that were also the focus of a series of devastating reports by national experts earlier this year, including mental health, education and medical care.
