The California Youth Authority is temporarily ending all its work and public service crews while it investigates the escape of two wards incarcerated for violent crimes including murder.
Thao Lor, 22, who was incarcerated for second-degree murder, and Yatau Her, 21, committed for assault with a deadly weapon, walked away while doing charity work in Sacramento. While rare, Wednesday´s escapes were deemed so serious that crews statewide won´t be permitted to operate outside institutions while the work and public service crew policy is reviewed. Changes could include limiting which wards are allowed to participate and increasing the number of employees assigned to oversee the crews.
