Officials across a wide area of Northern California are keeping a close eye on rivers and streams as this winter storm dumps heavy rains on the low elevation region and heavy snow in the high county.
Chains were mandatory on the Sierra´s higher elevation roadways. A winter storm warning and a high wind advisory is in effect for the mountains through the night.
The CHP and area tow truck drivers were busy….snow on the upper elevations roads in the Mother Lode caused numerous spin-outs by vehicles.
Lots of trees and branches falling into power and phone lines caused isolated brownouts and disruption in service in both Calaveras and Tuolumne counties Thursday.
The National Weather Service says snow will continue, heavy at times, overnight with accumlation ranging from 6 -to- 12 inches at the 4,000 foot level, to as much as 2 to 3 feet over the highest elevations.
