Peterson Murder Trial: Not In Modesto
The judge in the Laci Peterson murder case has agreed to the defense´s request to move Scott Peterson´s trial out of Modesto.
Judge Al Girolami says Peterson won´t be able to get a fair jury in his dead wife´s hometown. Peterson is accused in the deaths of his wife and unborn child.
The case will be moved out of Stanislaus County, but the judge did not say where. He suggested that jurors could be selected in neighboring San Joaquin County and transported 30 miles each day from Stockton.
Peterson´s lawyer, Mark Geragos, argues Modesto residents are prejudiced against his client, making it difficult for him to get a fair trial.
Prosecutors tried to counter that widespread publicity makes a change of venue pointless.
The decision has yet to be finalized by the judge.
