TuCARE Dinner Raises Funds, Awareness

A packed house for the annual Tuolumne County Alliance for Resource and the Environment dinner Friday night.

Keynote speaker for the evening — Peter Brierty, fire marshall for San Bernardino County, entertained the folks at the TuCare Fund raising dinner. Topics he discussed with the large gathering included the devastating fires of Southern California this past fall.

Brierty said the region, which is very similar to the local Mother Lode communities of Twain Harte and Mi-Wuk Village, was filled with dead and dying trees. A bog-down in government action before the fires and response to the emergency did nothing to help matters the veteran firefighter said.

The TuCare event at the Sonora Elks Lodge, also included the Pot of Gold auction, which at one time was a separate event, but over five years the auction merged with the dinner. Both a live and silent auction bolstered the fund raising efforts.

Consultant Janette Kuret, from TuCare, said they use the fund generated by events like last Friday night´s… to promote forest awareness.
