Environmental groups sued two regional water quality boards and the State Water Resources Control Board yesterday over waivers they say don´t do enough to protect waterways from the effects of logging.
Between them, the two regional boards´ decisions affect water quality for about two-thirds of the state´s population — including the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas.
The Sierra Club, DeltaKeeper and the Environmental Protection Information Center sued the Lake Tahoe-area Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board and the Central Valley board that oversees the region from Bakersfield to the Oregon border.
The state board also is named in the Sacramento County suit because it approved the regional board decisions in January. A board spokesman isn´t commenting.
