Governor Keeps Controversial Donation
Governor Schwarzenegger has decided to keep a 100-thousand dollar campaign contribution from a workers´ compensation insurance company despite his policy of not taking money from those insurers while he negotiates workers´ comp legislation.
Aides say the donation from the American Financial Group is an exception because it was pledged before the March 2nd primary election, when Schwarzenegger was raising money to pass Propositions 57 and 58.
Those ballot measures were part of the governor´s efforts to deal with the state´s budget problems.
A consumer advocate, Doug Heller of the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, says Schwarzenegger is using tortured logic to try to define good and bad campaign contributions and should return the American Financial money.
