Mother Lode Round-up activities got under way in earnest Saturday… with the Great Steak Barbecue.
The annual cowboy feast at the Sheriff´s Posse Grounds on Rawhide Road in Jamestown..kicked things off.as such “It´s worked into where we cook steaks for 600 to 800 people and have a good time.” It also acts as a reunion, so says Sheriff Posse member Al O´Brien.
“We kind of consider it a Tuolumne County reunion,” O´Brien said. “There are guys who were in the Posse for more than 10 years that are now considered past-active members who like to come back for the reunions.”
Hundreds of pounds of steak, baked potatoes, salad, cowboy beans, and garlic bread filled the plates of those attending the annual feast. Weather Saturday in Jamestown was perfect for outdoor dining. A country-western dance followed through the night to work off all the good eats.
Round-Up activities run through Mother´s Day weekend with the Queen Horsemanship this Saturday morning at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, the Sunday it´s the Round-Up Queen Pageant at the Sonora Elks Lodge. The Band Review, Calcutta, Parade and Rodeo all on tap in the next few weeks.
