Many folks are likely waking up with sunburns this morning following the weekend full of Mother Lode Round-Up Rodeo Events.
A big part of the fun during the Mother Lode Round-Up is two full days of professional rodeo. Bull riding, bareback bronc riding, barrel racing and team roping all are crowd pleasers , not to mention the kid´s mutton busting event..
This year, as in years past, the Businessman´s Calf Scramble during the rodeo performance had the fans to their feet cheering on for their favorite team. Ten teams competed Saturday. Even newly-crowd Round-Up Queen Meagon Middleton was right in the middle of the chaos, dust and mayhem!
Rich Abalos and Justin Middleton were the Champions in the Calf Scramble.
If you´re a non-rodeo fan, Abalos says it´s not a tough event. “When that calf comes out of the chute, I´ve got to hold on to him and try to get him stopped, and he´s got to run over and tie a little ribbon on his tail,” says Abalos.
And Middleton told me the audience is a big inspiration. “It´s incredible. You dream about winning, you just think about it in the morning and then just hits you once it happens. It´s unreal,” he says.
Middleton and Abalos finished the Calf Scramble in 28 seconds for the victory. However, the Round-Up Rodeo wasn´t just an event for adults this weekend.
With a Stick-Horse Race, a Mini Calf Scramble, and Mutton Bustin´, kids were just as able to participate.
Ruby Personius told me about the Mutton Bustin´, although she admitted it was her first time, “I hang around their neck and hold on to the fur!”
Personius was Champion Mutton Buster on Saturday.
