One small Sonoma County fire department is turning its new firetruck into a traveling billboard.
The tiny Glen Ellen Fire Department is offering advertising space to companies that donated money for its new 350-thousand-dollar fire engine.
The department figures if ads raise money for ballparks, sporting events and city buses, why not fire trucks.
Two wineries, a bank, a market and an individual have together contributed about 100-thousand dollars to help buy the engine.
In exchange, their logos will be prominently displayed for the life of the truck.
The logo-covered engine is drawing mixed reviews.
But Glen Ellen officials say finding money isn´t easy at a time when the state is cutting subsidies and operating costs are rising.
