The Sonora City Council has called a special meeting this Thursday at 9 a.m. to consider declaring this Friday an official Day of Mourning for the City of Sonora to honor President Ronald Reagan.
This week, the United States Congress and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have similar declarations.
Should the measure pass, city offices with the exception of emergency personnel will be given eight hours of paid holiday for the observance.
We´ve also received word from the Department of Motor Vehicles indicating they will be operating this Friday.
The governor´s directive this week required all necessary public services to be maintained and that means the California DMV will maintain normal operations, including appointments, walk-in customers, and transactions over the phone and over the Internet.
Schwarzenegger says DMV employees who work on Friday will be given time off for remembrance at a later date.
