Sonora High School alumnus Neil Parry spoke some inspirational words to the audience at the Dinner at Dodge on Friday Night.
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The only way to succeed is to try just one more time.”
Parry was playing in a college football game when he severely broke his leg.
Doctors later had to amputate his leg below the knee.
But with hard work and three years of rehabilitation, he went on to play football again with San Jose State.
“Someone giving me a chance was all it took. I ended up making the team and I played as a freshman,” Parry told the group at the fundraising dinner.
Parry has gained national fame for his comeback, and also told the audience Friday that he was just hired on staff by the San Francisco 49ers.
The annual dinner event at Dodge Ridge raised $10,000 for the Economic Development Company.
A matching grant was also provided by the Sonora Area Foundation.
