Sacramento, CA — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is appointing a prison health care czar to comply with a federal judge´s order that the state immediately improve a system that sees one inmate die each week.
Schwarzenegger´s appointee is Doctor Peter Farber-Szekrenyi. But some are questioning whether the doctor is qualified enough to succeed.
Donald Specter, director of the Prison Law Office, says Farber-Szekrenyi “doesn´t have any correctional health care experience or experience in government.”
Farber-Szekrenyi is a 61-year-old Republican from Sunol. He has more than 30 years experience in health care administration, including a stint as a top manager of the Alameda County Medical Center.
