CFT Members Protest Ballot Propositions

Sonora, CA — Mother Lode members of the California Federation of Teachers along with firefighters, nurses, and many other public service organizations are banding together to ask the public to vote NO on propositions 74, 75, and 76.

More than 50 people carried picket signs down Washington Street yesterday in protest of the propositions authored by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, which they say are poorly thought out and confusing to voters. The group ended up at Court House Park where the Superintendent of Tuolumne County Schools, Joe Silva said proposition 74 targets teachers as the problem in public schools.

Silva also said proposition 75 unfairly targets teachers, nurses and firefighters with spending restrictions on unions and added that proposition 76 breaks the promise to California students by eliminating education funding. Several other people expressed their concerns to the crowd while showing their signs to passing cars.
