Governor Endorses 2006 Ballot Measure On Sex Offenders
Sacramento, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger is endorsing a proposed 2006 ballot measure to toughen penalties against sex offenders.
The proposal would force sex offenders to wear monitoring devices tracked by satellite for life. The Republican governor said that the iniative would shield children and women from predators.
Also, the proposal would toughen penalties for a host of offenses, from possession of child pornography to luring minors into sex over the Internet. Despite the state´s fragile budget and huge debt obligations, Schwarzenegger acknowledged the state could be forced to build more prisons to accommodate an increase in violators.
