State Supreme Court Hears Free Cigarette Case

Sacramento, CA — Arguments are underway in front of the California Supreme Court over a state law that prohibits giving away cigarettes.

Today´s hearing being held in Redding, comes as cigarette company R-J Reynolds Tobacco continues to fight against a state law that prohibits tobacco freebies.

The case began six years ago when the tobacco giant was fined nearly $15 million for giving out free cigarettes at public events throughout California.

The maker of Camel, Winston and other brands says it has a right to give free tobacco to adults.

Today´s hearing comes after R-J Reynolds already lost two court battles in the case.
