Sonora, CA — CDF crews from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties are in Southern California helping fire fighters battle a 25,000 acre wildfire burning near Los Angeles.
CDF Fire Marshall Karry Hubbard says two strike teams have been dispatched to the Topanga Fire in the San Fernando Valley.
Hubbard says each strike team consists of five engines and four CDC inmate crews of about 20 fire fighters each.
Officials say more than 3000 fire fighters are battling the blaze which has forced several evacuations and destroyed or threatened dozens of homes.
Forecasters are predicting cooler weather with lighter winds today after heat and Santa Ana winds fanned the flames yesterday.
Crews have the fire 20% contained and are hoping to reach 35% containment by tonight. To see satellite images of the fire click on US Forest Service Fire Map .
