Governor Wants More Than $90 Million To Protect Ca Levees
Sacramento, CA — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants more than $90 million in federal money to beef up California´s aging levee system.
Schwarzenegger is trying to avoid a New Orleans-style flood disaster. The Republican governor has joined Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congressman Richard Pombo in calling for federal funding to upgrade 12 important levee systems.
Most of them are in the Central Valley and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
Schwarzenegger says the Sacramento region has the nation´s lowest level of flood protection for a major urban area.
