Sacramento, CA — Several State legislators are joining Governor Schwarzenegger in asking President Bush for federal aid to assist in helping evacuees of Hurricane Katrina.
The request was drafted by the governor on September 6th and was signed by 44 members of the State Assembly.
The letter asks the president to issue a Federal Declaration of Major Disaster which would enable local governments to receive 100% federal assistance to implement emergency protective measures statewide if necessary.
The letter says such a declaration is vital tot health of the local economies. The letter says many of the communities have already sent police and fire personnel and additional rescue workers to the Gulf Coast.
It also notes that many of the evacuees have been relocated to California.
