Governor Proposes Life-Long Satellite Tracking Of Sex Offenders
Sacramento, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed sweeping new penalties on sex offenders, including a requirement that paroled violators wear satellite monitors for life.
Florida already has such a law, but Schwarzenegger wants other changes as well.
He wants to prohibit registered sex offenders from living near parks and schools.
He wants also to increase penalties for possession of child pornography, date rapists and anyone who uses the internet lure minor victims.
The proposals will require approval from the Legislature but it is unclear if majority Democrats support the plan.
Democratic state senators rejected a bill in June that would have required lifetime satellite tracking of child molesters.
