California Adds 15,600 Jobs Yet Unemployment Rate Is Up
Sacramento, CA — Good news for California´s employment picture. The economy added 15,600 jobs in June marking the sixth straight gain.
California accounted for nearly 11 percent of all jobs created nationwide. The state Employment Development Department estimates 14.7 million people held payroll jobs during the month.
Construction showed the largest gain in June, up by 8,100 jobs as people rushed to buy homes before interest rates climb higher.
The government sector posted the steepest decline, losing 6, 300 jobs. Now the bad news. The state´s unemployment rate rose to 5.4 percent in June, up a tenth of a percent from May.
The unemployment rate rose because job gains were nearly offset by an increase in the number of people looking for work.
