Oakdale, CA — An Oakdale man is dead after being struck by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver.
CHP says 25-year-old Adan Jaimes was killed shortly after 8:00 Friday night as he attempted to cross the Oakdale-Waterford Highway to retrieve a soccer ball.
Investigators say the impact threw Jaimes at least 150 feet. Officers say James suffered severe trauma and died immediately.
Police say 34-year-old Jess Nelson of Oakdale was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he pulled into the oncoming lane to pass a vehicle that stopped to allow Jaimes to cross the roadway.
Nelson was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for investigation of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
