Gusty winds and downed trees have caused several sporadic power outages in the Mother Lode today. Several residents from Columbia to Cedar Ridge have reported outages since this morning. Power in the Columbia area was disrupted for about an hour this morning. Several P.G. and E. customers living in the Cedar Ridge area near Big Hill, downtown Jamestown, Twain Harte, Mi Wuk, Long Barn, Crystal Falls and beyond have reported being without power this afternoon and evening. Approximately 6700 customers in Tuolumne County remained without power as of 4 PM today.
Utility spokeswoman Emily Barnett says crews are working to repair lines damaged by trees. Power is not expected to be restored until later tonight. Some individual customers may have to wait even longer before their electricty returns. Barnett recommends that customers keep fresh batteries, a flashlight, radio and other emergency supplies handy. Wet and windy weather is forecast to remain in the region throughout the weekend. Residents are reminded to never approach or touch downed power lines and to report all outages to P.G.and E. at 800-743-5002.
