Heavy snow on Tuesday followed by severe ice today sent several people to the emergency room. Sonora Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Gail Witzlsteiner says the ER treated 2 people that fell in the snow on Tuesday and 3 people that slipped while walking on ice Wednesday. Two people were also injured in a two vehicle crash on Highway 108 near Lime Kiln Road during the morning commute. One of the injured motorists was admitted to the hospital. A variety of minor crashes had traffic backed up between Soulsbyville and Sonora throughout the morning. A casino bus also overturned on ice on Tuolumne Road just after 10 a.m. The accident temporarily trapped the driver, who suffered minor injuries. Schools in the area remained open, though some reported delays. Roads are expected to be clear Thursday morning, though ice may remain in shaded areas. Drivers are urged to be cautious.
