Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told an interviewer earlier yesterday that he used steroids as a champion bodybuilder and would still have used them even knowing what he knows now about their adverse effects.
Schwarzenegger told ABC´s George Stephanopoulos that he had no regrets about using steroids and that he had done so under a doctor´s supervision.
The former seven-time Mr. Olympia said he wouldn´t encourage drug use because it sent the wrong message to children.
But he has no problems with athletes taking nutritional supplements and other legal substances. Since becoming governor in November, 2003, Schwarzenegger has maintained his ties to the bodybuilding world.
He serves as executive editor of Flex Magazine, and heads out next weekend to The Arnold Classic, an annual bodybuilding festival in Columbus, Ohio that still bears his name.
