COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) __ Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he wants to ban junk food from California schools — and that legislation is being introduced to accomplish the goal.
Schwarzenegger took questions from fans on the final day of his
annual Arnold Classic bodybuilding and fitness weekend in Columbus, Ohio. In response to a question about combatting childhood obesity, the governor said vending machines in schools should be filled with fresh fruits, vegetables and milk.
Chief of Staff Pat Clarey said later that despite Schwarzenegger´s comment, all junk food might not be banned. Aides said that the governor supports a bill by Democratic state Senator Martha Escutia that would ban soft drinks at public schools. Clarey did say the administration hopes to develop a more comprehensive legislative package dealing with snack foods
